The student leadership team manages the foundation's core operations. From conceptualizing the Grand Youth Festival at Fremont Central Park to managing our global social media presence, our leaders take ownership of:

Meet Our Leadership

Chengry Hsien
PRESIDENT
Chengry Hsien is the student president and founder of Foundation in F. He currently resides in Fremont, California, and currently attends Mission San Jose High School. He has been playing the piano for over 10 years and has won prestigious awards such as being invited to play the Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall, winning 1st in American Protege 3 times, Honorable Mention in the International New Star Piano competition, the American Classical Young Musician Award, and winning International competitions in Germany and Singapore. When he isn't playing the piano, you can find him swimming at CDST or reading Campbell Biology. Also in his free time, he enjoys talking to his friends, playing basketball, or eating Costco Lasagna. He is very excited to work with this Foundation and give people the chance to connect to the great world of music.

Patrick Aoun
VICE PRESIDENT
Patrick Aoun is the Vice President for Foundation in F. He is 15 years old, lives in Fremont, California, and currently attends Mission San Jose High School. He has been playing the piano for 7 years and has completed the Certificate of Merit program, receiving honors each year, as well as convention recognition for three years. In addition to piano, he enjoys staying active by playing tennis and going to the gym, which helps him stay focused and balanced. In his free time, he likes playing video games such as Roblox and Minecraft, watching anime, and spending time with friends. He is excited to continue growing as a musician and to be part of a community that shares a passion for music.

Sofie Pan
VICE PRESIDENT
Sofie Pan is a dedicated pianist who started playing at the age of six. She has completed the CM Level 10 certification and has earned awards in competitions like the USOMC. While she enjoys the challenge of complex music, Sofie especially loves playing with others, she finds joy in collaborating and sharing the experience of music with fellow musicians. Her passion for performance and working with others has shaped her musical journey, making her an approachable and enthusiastic artist within her community.

Kunzhong (Kevin) Wang
SECRETARY
Kunzhong Wang is a clarinetist at Mission San Jose High School. He believes that music is not just art that brings feelings and emotions but an experience that allows you to grow in multiple facets. Music brought him the joy I need for soccer, persistence for robotics, and concentration for music clinics. He hopes to spread this ideology to more music enthusiasts around the world. He serves at Class of 2028’s Secretary at MSJHS and also holds many other leadership positions in school clubs, outside organizations, and competition teams. Music serves a crucial part of his career as well, having him being admitted into California’s CASMEC All-State Ensembles, Northern-California Honor Bands, and serving as section leader in the MSJ bands.

Lucas Chen
TREASURER
Sixteen-year-old Lucas Chen has grown up with a passion for both numbers and music, viewing the intersection of the two as a powerful way to make a difference. A sophomore at Mission San Jose High School, he brings his love of mathematics to his role as Treasurer for Foundation in F, where he is deeply committed to making music accessible to people of all backgrounds. Beyond the balance sheets and budget reports, Lucas can be found competing in math competitions, baking, or sharing his knowledge with younger students as a teacher of abacus and science. His belief that music belongs to everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, drives his dedication to the organization, and he looks forward to helping Foundation in F grow alongside his incredible teammates.

Sophia Liao
FESTIVAL HEAD
Sophia Liao was introduced to music at a very young age, growing up listening to her parents play classical music around the house. After hearing her mother play the piano, Sophia became fascinated, and at sixteen years old, she has now been playing the piano for eleven years. She has participated in numerous recitals, as well as the well-regarded US Open Music Competition. Additionally, she earned the ARSM diploma with merit and completed the entire ABRSM curriculum from Levels 1 through 8. Currently, Sophia is studying AP Music Theory at Mission San Jose High School and has used her perfect pitch to her advantage in her musical studies. Beyond music, Sophia is passionate about improving her community through advocacy and civic engagement, actively seeking opportunities to learn more about government and effective public service. She is also an MSJ Phoenix editor, a Fremont Junior Writers curriculum developer, and a teaching assistant at Fremont Chinese School, where she enjoys working with younger students. In her free time, Sophia enjoys reading, appreciating different music styles, chatting with friends, and doomscrolling in bed.

Minlu Zhao
MEMBERSHIP HEAD
Minlu has been playing violin for 6 years and played piano for 8 years, from the age of 9 and 5 respectively. She is currently in the philharmonic orchestra at San Jose Youth Symphony as a first violin and is studying AP music theory at Mission San Jose High School. Additionally, she also coaches robotics to elementary school kids as well as plays water polo and swims for Mission. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, listening to music, sleeping, and eating food.

Ethan Luo
PUBLICITY HEAD
Ethan Luo is currently a sophomore at Mission San Jose High School. Originally from Shanghai, China, he formerly performed as a first keyboard in school band, along with regular studio performances, building a strong foundation in musical performance. Currently, he lives in Fremont, California. With 9 years of experience, he continues piano as a hobby. In addition to music, the Chinese national plays both tennis and soccer on school teams, balancing athletics with academics. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, watching movies, and eating ice cream. His favorite flavor is sea salt caramel. He is excited to continue his efforts and help the Foundation in F community grow from his postition as Publicity Department Head.

Flora Fu
ACTIVITIES HEAD
Flora Fu is a sophomore at Mission San Jose High School, and she has been playing viola for 6-7 years. She currently plays in the CYS orchestra with her friends. She also volunteers at her local orchestra to spread her love for music with others. Outside of music, Flora loves making and eating food. Her favorite food is applesauce. She also loves (and hates) finance and economics. Additionally, she likes sleeping, reading, and not exercising.

Roger Yao
ACTIVITES HEAD
Roger Yao is a pianist with over 10 years of experience and has achieved ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction. His passion for piano stems from a love of music in general, and most importantly, the joy of sharing music with others. In addition to practicing piano regularly, Roger is also developing his skills outside of playing piano through other academic activities and community service, all with the same dedication to achieving excellence in his piano playing. He looks forward to joining the foundation, as well as encouraging others to develop their interest in piano.

Sandra Choi
EDUCATION HEAD
Sandra Choi has been playing violin for 6 years. She started music through piano and singing at age 4 and played for 8 years. Later, after beginning violin, she realized which instrument she wanted to focus on and develop. Sandra has been performing in orchestra for 5 years and currently plays in Golden State Youth Orchestra’s Senior orchestra. She likes to express her interest in music through chamber music. Other than orchestra, chamber music, and solo playing, she is also an officer for Back to Bach where she helps younger children find their love for music. She hopes to bring the joy that she has felt through music to other kids through this program. Other than music, she likes drawing, musicals and movies.

Jessica Cao
EDUCATION HEAD
Sixteen-year-old musician Jessica Cao has grown up immersed in music, viewing it not only as an art form but as a powerful way to connect with others. She began her musical journey at a young age, first exploring piano and voice, where she earned numerous accolades that reflect both her dedication and artistry. Over the past five years, she has focused on the flute, developing a deep passion for its expressive capabilities and refining her technical and musical skills. Jessica currently performs as both a flutist and piccolo player in the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra. Previously in 2024, she was selected as principal flautist for the California All-Northern Junior High Honor Band and played in the All-State Junior High Symphonic Band. Beyond rehearsals and private lessons, Jessica is dedicated to using music as a form of service. Through her work with the Fremont PLAY Foundation, she has volunteered at local senior homes for the past two years, organizing and leading over twenty concerts that bring joy, comfort, and connection to residents. Beyond music, Jessica is also a student journalist, poet, DECA fiend, and occasional cat fosterer.

Hanrui Chen
GLOBAL AMBASSADOR
Hi! I'm Hanrui Chen (Global Ambassador).
I'm currently 15, and have moved from the states to Shanghai, China. I've been practicing piano since 5, developing high proficiency and a deep passion for the instrument. Additionally, I play the oboe in our school's wind ensamble and have experience as a soloist. Besides music, I'm also into physics, literature and gaming.
